5th March 2013: Filing Phillie

5thMarchWhy did I choose this wallpaper? What was the context?

This graphic is a stock image that came with my MacBook Pro. Of all the stock images, though, I chose this one because it’s hand painted (I like art around me while I work) and because the bar (though it looks like a vessel) is called Phillie’s, the awful nickname I could, but never will, call my boyfriend, Phil.

Why is this image here?

My desktop is a place of refuse and refuge. Temporary files waiting for trash as well as long-term files waiting to be used again, are kept here.

How do I feel when I see it?

Calmed. The yellow paint, and the few faces remind me I’m not alone, though I work solo much of the time. I also like that it’s not a ‘busy’ scene. Counters the chaos in my mind, and helps me stay focused.

What will I feel when I delete it?

When I replace it, I’ll be ready. But I’m not ready yet.

How long has this been your wallpaper?

At least 6 months. Possibly a year.

Which of your applications/programs assist your life/ are where you spend most of your time?

This MacBook Pro is fundamental to my professional life. On it, the applications I rely on most are Google (search engine), Chrome (web browser), and Gmail (email application). Beyond that, I use MS Word, Excel and a lot of Facebook. I also integrate with my family’s Apple TV when watching films or showing photographs. That may sound like a spend much time at the computer (which I do), but the nearby trails of Pacific Spirit Park, the beaches of Jericho and Locarno, and my local shopping village, are also applications I use a lot for my personal life.

Do I think it constitutes art?

You bet.

Anything else you think important, tell us a story behind the image.

I have much filing to do!
